Transportation: Sports
Sit back and enjoy the ride. Traveling to and around Puerto Rico is a breeze.
When planning a sports trip, coordinating transportation to and from events, training sessions, and other sports-related activities is crucial. While this is no small task, Discover Puerto Rico’s sports sales team can assist you with finding the perfect solution for your group. Be it charter buses, flights, or even ferries, we’ll make sure you make it on time and with minimal stress.
Flights to Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has three major airports that offer more than 125 daily direct flights to and from major cities in the U.S., as well as several international destinations. Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is located in metro San Juan and is the largest, most accessible airport on the Island.
If you’ll be spending most of your trip in the south or west of the Island, then you may have the option of coming in via Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla or Mercedita Airport (PSE) in Ponce.
Getting Around
Bus rentals are a great way to transport your group around the Island. There are several companies that offer charter buses (and vans) of varying sizes and that have experience transporting sports groups, including Rutrex Puerto Rico, Gray Line Puerto Rico, and Transporte Sonnell.
Renting a car or van is also an option. All the major car rental companies — along with several smaller, local companies — have a presence in Puerto Rico, so you have plenty of options based on the specific needs for your trip.
Vieques and Culebra
If the nearby islands of Vieques and Culebra are part of your trip itinerary, you can reach both islands by small plane or ferry. Both Vieques Airport (VQS) and Culebra Airport (CPX) are accessible via short flights from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), Isla Grande Airport (SIG) in San Juan, or Ceiba Airport (RVR) in Ceiba on Puerto Rico’s east coast. The ferry terminal in Ceiba is also where you go to pick up a short ferry ride to Vieques or Culebra, with boats traveling back and forth several times per day.
