Legend has it that the ruins found at Herminia beach in Quebradillas used to be a storage place or a hideout for pirates. Dating back to the 18th century, it's more plausible that these ruins were a military post or a customs office. The fort was almost completely forgotten until 1952 when the ruins were rediscovered.
