The town of Lares is known for an attempted revolution that a group of Puerto Ricans led against the Spanish in 1868. In the town's beautiful plaza, you'll find a monument commemorating the famous Grito de Lares as well as the bust of Don Ramón Emeterio Betances, the leader of the attempted revolution.
