Comunidad Toro Negro, Inc

Comunidad Toro Negro Inc. is a community organization with a 17-year history to improve the quality of life of its residents through the conservation of natural resources that are part of its natural environment, self-managed projects of sustainability and resilience, and socioeconomic development initiatives. The Toro Negro Community became the first Solar Community in the Caribbean region to produce its energy in August 2018. Its initiative "Por Amor Al Río" is a community education project that originates from the need to educate about protecting and conserving its natural environment, especially the Río Toro Negro, in Ciales. Currently, the community organization carries out projects for drinking water reserves. It is part of the collaborative initiative "Mapa Madre" with a comprehensive vision of protecting natural resources and services through a hydrographic basin approach. The community organization's strategy to guarantee the continuity and sustainability of the projects is to promote the leadership of the young residents of the community under the "Habitantes de la Montaña" initiative.
