Today’s business travelers are looking to book conferences and events in destinations that put a focus on sustainability. In Puerto Rico, we pride ourselves on our continued efforts to preserve and protect our environment while also supporting local farms and other businesses.

Puerto Rico boasts a vibrant landscape that’s filled with diverse plants and animals that not only deserve our protection, but our appreciation as well. If your group is looking for a way to practice corporate social responsibility or to put your sustainable practices in action while meeting in Puerto Rico, below are some activities we recommend adding to your agenda.

Explore Puerto Rico’s Natural Wonders

There’s no better way to grow more appreciation for the environment than to let visitors experience it for themselves. Fortunately for meeting attendees in Puerto Rico, there are countless ways to spend time outside and enjoy the natural beauty of the Island.

Learn From Local Farmers

Puerto Rico's climate, topography, and hydrology give it the ideal landscape for a prolific, sustainable farming industry. Invite your attendees to learn about Puerto Rican agriculture by scheduling a tour at a local farm like Frutos del Guacabo or booking a space at a coffee hacienda for an after-hours event or networking activity. Groups can also savor local flavors by working with caterers to source food and drinks locally or scheduling a farm-to-table dining experience.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Another sustainable activity to consider when planning your meeting or corporate event is volunteering. There are many opportunities for your team to make a positive impact on our local community and environment. Whether your group wants to organize a beach clean-up, work with a nonprofit for a few hours, or assist with local youth at an after-school program, our team can put you in touch with the right people and organizations.

Along with adding some (or all) of these activities to your itinerary, we ask all groups to consider other sustainable practices when planning an event in Puerto Rico, such as sourcing locally made and biodegradable goods for welcome bags, providing easily accessible recycling bins, and encouraging attendees to bring their own water bottles rather than single-use plastic bottles. These small steps can help ensure that our beautiful Island is preserved for years to come.
