In addition to the collaborations highlighted in our main newsletter, Discover Puerto Rico has undertaken several initiatives in the last quarter that have significantly contributed to the growth and strengthening of the island’s tourism industry. Here are some of them:
First Attack FAM (October 11-14, 2024)
In collaboration with First Attack, the largest competitive gaming event in the Caribbean, Discover Puerto Rico hosted gamers James Cheng, Jonathan Parkes, and Saúl Mena. The event took place at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, with attendees staying at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Resort & Casino. They enjoyed a dinner at Barullo in the Distrito T-Mobile, accompanied by our Social Media Manager, Astrid Emanuelli.
International Chef’s Day 2024
To celebrate International Chef’s Day, Discover Puerto Rico collaborated with Puerto Rican James Beard Award finalists: Rafi from La Mafia, Chef Gabriel Hernández from Verde Mesa, and Chef Carlos Portela from Orujo. They shared their personal recommendations for visitors eager to explore Puerto Rico through its gastronomy.
Gastronomy FAM
Discover Puerto Rico organized a press trip for writers Flora Tsapovsky and Victoria Leandra, focusing on the island’s rich gastronomy. The writers stayed at the Condado Vanderbilt and participated in activities such as a culinary tour of Old San Juan and Loíza with The Spoon Experience, a visit to Aldeana in Cidra, and a farm-to-table experience at Finca La Zafra in Gurabo. They also dined at fine dining restaurants like Cocina Al Fondo, led by Chef Natalia Vallejo, and 1919, led by Chef Juan José Cuevas.
Copa FAM Trip – Brazil (October 28-31, 2024)
Cristina Fernandes, from Discover Puerto Rico’s leisure travel team, organized the Copa FAM Trip, hosting eight participants from Brazil, including travel advisors, meeting planners, and representatives from Copa Airlines. The group stayed at El Conquistador Resort and The Royal Sonesta San Juan, visited various hotels, and enjoyed culinary experiences at La Estación, Ventanas Restaurant, Palomino Bar & Grill, and Metropol Restaurant. Activities included a visit to Palomino Island, an ATV experience at Carabalí Rainforest Adventure Park, the Flavors of San Juan Food and Culture Tour, a mixology session at Ron del Barrilito, and shopping at The Mall of San Juan.
Condé Nast Traveler Spain Press Trip
Discover Puerto Rico hosted writers Cristina Fernández and Rocío Fernández from Condé Nast Traveler Spain for a press trip on the island. They stayed at Aire de Olive, Casa Bajura B&B, Parguera Plaza Hotel, and The Serene House. Their itinerary included a tour of Old San Juan with Patria Tours, a visit to Frutos del Guacabo farm, an outdoor excursion at Royal Isabela, a coffee tour in Adjuntas with Isla Caribe, a farm-to-table experience at Finca La Zafra, and an art exhibition with local artist Bernardo Medina.
TravelBrands SeaU Conference (November 6, 2025)
Discover Puerto Rico collaborated with TravelBrands during their annual SeaU conference for travel agents. Over 200 Canadian travel agents visited Puerto Rico and participated in exclusive tours at the iconic Bacardí distillery. This immersive experience highlighted the unique excursions Puerto Rico offers, encouraging agents to promote pre- and post-cruise stays for their clients’ Caribbean vacations.
Golf FAM
Discover Puerto Rico organized a golf familiarization trip for writers Bill Kamenjar, Gabe Gudgel, and Randy Williams. They stayed at the Hilton Ponce Golf & Casino Resort and the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve, enjoying rounds of golf at Costa Caribe Golf & Country Club, El Legado Golf Resort, and The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort and Golf Club. They also savored the cuisine at restaurants like Mesa, Cocina y Vinatería, and Verde Mesa.
Strategic Advisory Council Meeting (December 12-13, 2024)
The Strategic Advisory Council's annual in-person meeting was held at the Royal Sonesta San Juan. This gathering provided Discover Puerto Rico’s leadership with comprehensive industry insights, data, statistics, trends, and perspectives on sector-specific opportunities and challenges. The discussions fostered collaboration across various industry sectors, supporting the organization’s strategic direction.
These initiatives underscore Discover Puerto Rico’s commitment to promoting the island’s diverse attractions, from its vibrant culinary scene to its burgeoning e-sports industry. They aim to enrich tourism and showcase the unique experiences Puerto Rico offers.
