HSMAI Puerto Rico Honored with the Frank W. Berkman “Best of the Best” Award

The Puerto Rico chapter stood out in the Communication/Marketing category among all small chapters in the Americas

The Puerto Rico Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) was awarded the Frank W. Berkman Best of the Best Award in the Communication/Marketing category during the 2025 Mike Leven Leadership Conference, held in Orlando, Florida.

The winner in this category is selected based on an analysis of each chapter’s objectives, goals, and achievements throughout the year. HSMAI Puerto Rico distinguished itself through its outstanding performance in communication strategies, successfully increasing the organization’s visibility, attracting new members, and keeping its community informed.

“We were recognized for the work we are doing in marketing and communications. The judges highlighted our vibrant brand and comprehensive communication campaign, which includes a newsletter, email outreach, and a strong social media presence. In fact, we were the chapter that generated the most content for these platforms,” explained Janid Ortiz, Director of HSMAI Puerto Rico.

Ortiz emphasized the significance of this award within the hospitality and tourism industry.
“This is a prestigious recognition in the fields of sales, revenue, and marketing—HSMAI’s three core pillars. For our chapter, which was reactivated just two years ago, this is a significant achievement,” she added.

HSMAI drives the sustainable growth of the hospitality industry through education and strategic programs. With over 7,000 members and 40 chapters across the Americas, the organization offers initiatives such as ‘HSMAI’s MEET,’ the ‘Adrian Awards,’ and the ‘Revenue Optimization Conference.’ These events aim to strengthen sales, marketing, and revenue optimization in the sector.

The HSMAI Puerto Rico Chapter was reactivated in 2022 thanks to a donation from Discover Puerto Rico, which enabled its relaunch and growth.
“This award reaffirms our commitment to preparing industry professionals and students by providing them with tools and certifications to enhance their skills and contribute to their companies’ growth. We firmly believe that when professionals are well-prepared, they can reach and exceed their goals,” Ortiz emphasized.

The chapter’s next event will be the Breakfast of Champions Workshop: "NeuroMarketing Unlocked: Elevating Hospitality with Science-Driven Guest Experiences" with Dr. Thomas Agrait and Dr. Lizette Roque, taking place on March 19, 2025, at The Royal Sonesta San Juan from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
