La Francesa of the San Rafael de las Quebradillas Cemetery
Set in the San Rafael Cemetery, the legend of Madame Coutono tells the story of a mother who rises from her grave at night, whispering lullabies to her daughter, who passed away from tuberculosis. Locals avoid passing by the cemetery after sunset, fearing an encounter with “La Francesa” (The Frenchwoman) —as known in popular lore— whose sorrowful whispers echo through the night at this graveyard located in the municipality of Quebradillas.

The Graduation Ghost of Yauco
The vibrant town of Yauco has a spooky tale dating back to 1975. During this year, a young girl was on her way to her graduation party when a guy offered her a ride. They danced the night away, and he took her back home afterward. As he said goodbye, he noticed she was cold, so he lent her his jacket with the intention of picking it up later. The next day, he met with the girl’s mother, who told him that the person he described was her dead daughter. She even showed him pictures, and he confirmed it was the same person he spent the night with. When he visited the municipality cemetery to visit the girl’s grave, he found his jacket on the gravestone.

There are different versions of this urban legend, but they all come to the same conclusion: you might hear the haunting cries of a baby at night while crossing the mystical Llorosa Bridge in Aibonito. As the story goes, one evening, a drunk man was passing the bridge on horseback when he heard the child and decided to rescue him. He assumed the baby was crying from hunger and, as he tried to feed him with a piece of bread, he noticed the baby had sharp fangs while it started to laugh sinisterly, revealing himself to be the devil! It’s said that the man abandoned his drinking habits forever, and who wouldn’t after such a chilling encounter?
